Melanie Paraskeva

I have lived in Uley since 2006 and am married with four children. All my children went Uley Playgroup / Uley Primary School and then three to Rednock.

My background is in Fine Art and Education and I trained as a teacher in London. I worked locally for 8 years for a charity developing and running youth clubs and events for local children with disabilities and their siblings/families. I am experienced in inter-agency work concerning the welfare and mental health of young people.

For 6 years I have worked in both primary and secondary schools as a freelance safeguarding trainer for Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children Board. I also now deliver Safeguarding Adults training for staff volunteering or working with adults who have care and support needs in the community.

In my spare time I’m a volunteer youth worker at club in Dursley for young people on the autistic spectrum and also work with young people in the LGBTQ youth community.

I joined Uley Parish Council in 2010. I am a founding member and secretary of Uley Allotments Association. I also support Prema Arts Centre as a representative for the Parish Council and am a member of Uley WI.

I love walking on Uley Bury with my Galgo dogs and feel very lucky to live in such a peaceful place.
