Uley Jubilee Playground – Platinum Makeover Project

Uley Parish Council, with a small group volunteers, is now underway with the exciting project to improve our children’s playground located off Raglan Way.

As you will see below a new path is being created leading to the area prepared for a new, bespoke multiplay structure and an in-ground trampoline.

The stream at the south edge of the playground is being mostly covered and routed through a culvert with just the last few metres exposed at a “beach” area. New safety surfacing will be laid wherever required at the various play structures. Many other refurbishments and improvements are in hand.

We are grateful to everyone who has contributed to the fundraising, which is now closing in on a total of £40,000, every penny of which is being spent carefully to provide maximum value.

We are especially indebted to the marvellous team undertaking the heavy work – James Storey, Steve Haddrell, Phil Rymer and Matt Summers and for the loan of machinery from Richard Ford.

Further updates will follow as the work progresses.

The playground was originally created by volunteers and dedicated to the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. It was officially opened in May 1978 by HRH Princess Anne. Some refurbishment work was undertaken in 2002, at the time of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.

We believe it is now especially appropriate that we complete a makeover of the playground to celebrate our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022!  We want to make the most of the lovely setting, add paths to link between play areas, include wildflower patches and add exciting new play equipment.

The Uley Jubilee Playground is an asset of Uley Parish Council which pays for inspection, insurance, maintenance and repairs out of its annual precept. However, the PC does not hold capital sums sufficient to fund projects such as this. Most of the capital cost must therefore be raised by the Makeover Project Group from other sources. All monies raised will be handled through a PC bank account dedicated to the project, ensuring financial transparency, and the upgraded asset will remain the property of your Parish Council.

The group spearheading the project on behalf of the PC are a Working Group created in accordance with the PC’s Standing Orders and working to the Terms of Reference here
