ULEY JUBILEE PLAYGROUND – PLATINUM PROJECT 2022

In 2022 Uley Parish Council, with a small group volunteers, undertook a project to improve our children’s playground located off Raglan Way.

A new path was created leading to the area prepared for a new, bespoke multiplay structure and an in-ground trampoline.

The stream at the south edge of the playground was mostly covered and routed through a culvert with just the last few metres exposed at a “beach” area. New safety surfacing was laid wherever required at the various play structures, and some other refurbishments and improvements were made.

We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the fundraising, which reached a total of just over £40,000.

We are especially indebted to the organising group led by Cllr Mike Griffiths, and to the team that undertook the heavy work – James Storey, Steve Haddrell, Phil Rymer and Matt Summers and for the loan of machinery from Richard Ford.

The playground was originally created by volunteers and dedicated to the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. It was officially opened in May 1978 by HRH Princess Anne. Some refurbishment work was undertaken in 2002, at the time of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.

It was therefore especially appropriate that we complete a makeover of the playground to celebrate our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022!

The Uley Jubilee Playground is an asset of Uley Parish Council which pays for inspection, insurance, maintenance and repairs out of its annual precept. However, the PC does not hold capital sums sufficient to fund projects such as this. Hence the capital cost was raised by the Makeover Project Group from other sources. All monies were handled through a PC bank account dedicated to the project, ensuring financial transparency, and the upgraded asset remains the property of your Parish Council.
