Uley Allotment Association

Uley Allotment Association was formed in 2008 by founder members Gary Beardshaw and Melanie Paraskeva of Raglan Way. With the help of Gill Cathles, then Chair of Uley PC, they approached land owners in and around Uley looking for a parcel of land that the Parish Council may rent – alas to no avail. However, Melanie joined the Parish Council and continued the search until an opportunity arose alongside the affordable housing project in Raglan Way.

The chair of the PC at this time, Anne Sutcliffe, helped with negotiations and Ashy McKay, then Parish Clerk, helped us to secure a sustainability Eco start-up grant from Stroud District Council. This grant paid for preparing the site, fencing, gates, legal fees etc.

The allotments are located off Goldingham Close, named after the landowner Charles Goldingham. It was his father, Major Goldingham, who donated the land for the Jubilee playground, and the allotments adjoin this.

The site is leased to the Parish Council, who in turn lease it to the Uley Allotment Association who manage all the allotment affairs. The Allotments were opened in 2016, eight years after the search for land started! Gary sadly passed away before the allotments opened but we have a thriving community of gardeners, all with a different approach to growing, who come together for meetings and share one community shed onsite. There are eight full sized plots and

eight half-sized, and a small waiting list is kept for residents of Uley.

To join our waiting list, or view the UAA membership prices, rules and regulations, contact our secretary, m.paraskeva@uleyparishcouncil.gov.uk.

We organise an open event every year and here are some photographs from the first, when the allotments were officially opened in August 2016 by Charles Goldingham:
